چکیده

ences are significantly different it must be concluded that a strong aphid presence causes relatively little increase in the overall amount of cell damage. The length of time that aphids were allowed to feed hardly affected the amount of damage but it is possible that over substantially longer periods, such as experienced by a crop plant in the field, damage could accumulate. There was a noticable amount of cell damage in tissue not subjected to aphid attack. It seems most likely that this results from fixation of the plant material but the possibility exists that cells are influenced by other biological agencies such as leaf senescence or fungal infection. We conclude that in the short term aphid probing and feeding will not inflict substantial damage to the plant photosynthetic machinery and there is little suggestion that longer term problems will develop.

Stimulatory and suppressive effects of novaluron on the Colorado potato beetle reproduction.

The Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), is one of the most damaging insect pests of potato, Solanum tuberosum L. Novaluron is a relatively new benzoylphenyl urea insect growth regulator with good activity against this pest. Earlier studies revealed that feeding on potato foliage treated with novaluron induces reversible egg hatch inhibition in adult Colorado potato beetles....

Host-plant-mediated competition via induced resistance: interactions between pest herbivores on potatoes.

Plant-mediated competition among insect herbivores occurs when one species induces changes in plant chemistry, nutrition, or morphology that render plants resistant to attack by others. We explored plant-mediated interspecific interactions between the potato leafhopper (Empoasca fabae) and the Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), two important pests on potatoes. Leafhoppers colon...

Colorado potato beetle (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) feeding, development, and survival to adulthood after continuous exposure to Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. tenebrionis-treated potato foliage from the field.

Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), feeding, development, and survival to adulthood were examined after continuously exposing large larvae to Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. tenebrionis-treated potato foliage from the field. In laboratory assays, the overall consumption and the length of period to become prepupae were determined for larvae, which began as 3rd and 4th instars,...

Dose-response relationships for the antifeedant effects of Humulus lupulus extracts against larvae and adults of the Colorado potato beetle.

BACKGROUND Dose-response relationships for antifeedant effects of H. lupulus extracts against larvae and adults of the Colorado potato beetle (CPB) were determined in laboratory conditions. The larval and adult beetles were fed on potato leaflets treated with H. lupulus extract ranging from 0.4 to 40 mg mL(-1) in a no-choice situation. Their feeding behavior was recorded, and larval growth and ...

Influence of fertilization on the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata, in organic potato production.

The abundance of the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say), in organically grown potato did not change significantly in response to increasing rates of dehydrated poultry manure. However, peaks of abundance of larvae were shifted forward in time in response to the high rate of organic fertilizer. Tests using excised foliage showed that the shift was not caused by differential ...
